Gears of War Chainsaws Through The Big Screen

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

In what could be the most brilliant and unobvious, for those not following the game, promotional tie-in in the course of history brings Gears of War to a theatre near you. It seems when I made a suggestion for them to do this back in July someone listened.

Gears of War will be PLAYABLE, yes I said playable kids, after four select special sneak previews of New Line Cinema’s new movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The sneak previews will be shown next week on Tuesday October 4th in Chicago, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.

Are you interested yet? Of course you are! So don’t haste and head over to their website http://www.texaschainsawmovie.com/gearsofwar/ to get more information and sign up for the event. Also keep note this is a first come first served event, so be sure to get there early as possible to get in line. Once they hit theatre capacity, there will be no room for anyone else.

We will be at the Chicago event and will report back with all the content and bloody chainsawing details we can get out of the event for you readers. It’s been almost five months since we first got to play Gears of War, and we can’t wait!

Shacknews Interviews CliffyB

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Gaming news site, Shacknews, has posted up an interview with Gears of War lead designer Cliff “CliffyB” Bleszinski.

The interview is very deep and interesting, a great read for those interested in the views of the industry a game developer. The first half of the interview Cliffy discusses his views on many subjects involving the gaming industry. Here is a snippet where he discusses stagnation in the gaming industry.

“I think things are stagnating a bit because it’s hard enough to do what’s been done before and even do it right. Games that make you play for an extended period of time without auto-checkpointing. Unintuitive controls. Horrible dialogue and voice acting. Crappy cameras. The list goes on. Making a videogame is such a difficult process that quite frankly I’m surprised any ever actually get done and that some of them are fun.” – CliffyB

For the second half of the interview he of course talks about the upcoming Gears of War, and touches on many points about the game. Here is a snippet of his discussion of destroyable cover.

“I like our destroyable cover, especially in versus. When your foe takes cover behind a couch and you tear it to shreds with your lancer and he suddenly finds himself standing there, feeling naked, and you cut him down by popping his head with a well placed sniper shot… that’s pure and beautiful.” – CliffyB
