EA Montreal Exec slams Gears of War for ‘zero innovation’
Alain Tascan, general manager of EA Montreal, stated at a panel discussion at the Montreal Games Summit that Gears of War “brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter.” A few more choice quotes are embedded in the story over at Eurogamer.
Looks like those are fighting words. It should be noted that Tascan’s studio is currently in development of their game Army of Two, which many compare the game to Gears, but emphasizes co-op play. Tascan is putting a whole lot of pressure on his team now that he has publicly ridiculed a competitor, while he hasn’t actually played Gears of War yet. Army of Two better be an amazing game, or Tascan might have set his game on a level too high for his team to achieve.

This is talk coming from the company that has brought how many lame copies of Madden football? That guy needs to go play Goldeneye-Rogue Agent first, then play GOW. Then maybe he would understand what progress means!
Lets talk about innovation, EA. Battlefield 1942,Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Modern Combat for ALL SYSTEMS, Battlefield 2142, about 800 of the same sports games churned out every year. I hear theyre taking a chance with a “new gameplay style” with Army of 2, but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be very similar to the other 9000 action games that EA publishes every year. Change up your formulas, or even INNOVATE, and then talk shit.
