Gears VGA Fix Coming in Next Patch… But When?

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Epic Games President Mark Rein has announced on the Epic Games Forums that a patch for users of VGA cables on non-widescreen monitors is on the way. The problem resulted in a squished screen on non-widescreen TVs.

But the patch has to go through some levels of certification before it’s released to the masses, so because of this they will probably roll the fix into the next update for the game. No word on when that is happening, or what it will contain, but we know we are all anxiously waiting for it’s arrival.

Keyboard + Mouse adapter for the Xbox 360

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Are some of you Gears of War players wishing you had the ability to use a keyboard and mouse instead of the standard console controller? Well your wishes may be granted soon, because Xbox 360 accessory maker XCM has released some images of their prototype Keyboard and Mouse adapter for the Xbox 360.

Dubbed the XFPS 360 it adapts the following for use with the Xbox 360: USB Keyboard/Mouse, PS2 Keyboard/Mouse and PlayStation 2 Dual Shock Controllers. Not much is known right now on how it is configured, but according to the photos it appears to have some ability to save settings and also apply some turbo functionality for the buttons.

We hope to get our hands on one for a review once it’s completed, to see how well it can handle the console’s #1 shooter Gears of War.

Our next objective for the wiki is to finish polishing up the Multiplayer Guide as well as adding video to the Single Player Walkthrough.

Gears of War Tops Sales Charts

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Congratuations are in order again! Not only is Gears of War the top title on Xbox Live, but news has come that worldwide records indicate that Gears of War has achieved the new record. The record they set is that of “Fastest Selling Xbox 360 Title”, which they achieved by selling a staggering one million copies worldwide in the first week.

Over across the pond in the UK, Gears of War is breaking records too according to industry data. In it’s first week Gears of War has shot to the top spot of the UK Video Games charts in it’s first week of release. It also nailed the title of the UK’s second fastest selling game, right behind Halo 2.

“From the very beginning, we knew `Gears of War’ would be an industry-defining hit,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president at Microsoft Game Studios. “As we watched both the game and its hype grow, it became obvious that `Gears of War’ was the rare title that could live up to such incredible anticipation, and judging from the reaction of critics and fans, it’s done just that.”

Congrats again goes to the team at Epic Games, who have really created what is turning out to be an “epic” game!

Gears of War to be a Trilogy?

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Could the above image come true some day? Is Gears of War currently slated to become a trilogy? According to some comments made by a Microsoft VP, that may be the case.

“The goal of the ad is to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the
Gears of War trilogy,” Jeff Bell, Microsoft Corporate VP of Global
Marketing, Interactive Entertainment Business

Who knows what the truth is, but it seems very plausible to me with the storyline the game has. I would love to see this evolve beyond a trilogy myself, maybe even some prequels to explain in greater detail the backstory of the game?

CliffyB Interviewed by Ireland’s RedFM

Posted by Drew in Gears of War News

CliffyB was interviewed on Cork Talks Back with Victor Barry on RedFM. During the inteview, Victor says Cliff is “As Big as Big Mac’s and Jesus,” a comment sure to bring about Gears Of War burnings in the south, and possibly the suicide of Ronald McDonald should knowledge of it ever become widespread in the US. They discuss CliffyB’s first forray into the video game spot-light with his Super Mario Brother’s high score in Nintendo Power.

Also discussed are K-Fed’s desperate attempt to sell records, and photos of Lindsay Lohan’s “lady bits.” Vic asks CliffyB about anything he would have liked to have added to the game that didn’t make it and a COG rocket launcher is mentioned. CliffyB says he can’t comment on the possibility of a Gears sequal. When asked if there are any celebs he’d like to curb-stomp, Cliffy once again mentions Kevin Federline.

Gears of War Eclipses Halo 2 as Top Xbox Live Title

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Well it was bound to happen, Gears of War is now the number one game on Xbox Live according to Major Nelson’s latest update of stats!

It has finally dethroned Halo 2 of it’s two year reign as the top title being played. Anyone who has been looking at their Xbox Live Friends Lists recently could tell you that everyone has been playing Gears of War, so it doesn’t come as a big surprise to most of us.

Congrats to Epic Games for such a great success, I’m sure many more allocades are forthcoming!

XBL Connection Patch Coming Soon

Posted by Patrick McCarron in Gears of War News

Good news for all the players out there who have conquered the single player and moved on to the multiplayer game. There have been reports of some random connection issues with joining games, but don’t despair there is hope yet! Evidently a patch already is in the works. They are aiming to get the patch tested and released before the European launch this Friday, so everyone should keep an eye out for a game update in the days to come.

No word if it will fix any other multiplayer issues. But here’s hoping for at least something other than a bug fix up their sleeves.

On a related note according to Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, the patch that was released the first time you powered Gears of War was to fix an issue with the Leaderboards. He told us that information while playing online with him during the Emergence Day Promo on Saturday. We did capture some gameplay videos during this, so I may edit together a Mark Gets Owned and Mark Owns All montage of video clips. Depends on how good the footage is, I haven’t watched through it all in some time.
