Movement Button
From Gears of War Realm - Gears of War Wiki Strategy Guide
The movement button [A] is a context sensitive button that can do all the following things:
Contents |
Getting Into Cover
Press the movement button while standing against any cover to brace up against it. As long as you are behind cover you can use the movement button to perform other context sensitive actions. Pulling the left trigger while behind cover allows you to lean out and aim, pulling the right trigger allows you to blind fire. Also while in cover if you press the left analog stick in you can force duck with your player.
Exiting Cover
Press the movement button when no context sensitive commands show up at the bottom of the screen to back away from the cover you are using. If you find this to take more time, you can also pull away from cover using the left control stick.
Mantle
If you are taking cover behind a low wall you can mantle it using the movement button. Simply push forward and press the movement button to jump over the wall. You can then hold the movement button to initiate a roadie run, much like a cover slip.
Evade
Pressing the movement button away from cover will initiate an evade. This is simply a roll that you can use to evade enemy attacks. The direction of the roll is based on the direction of the movement stick.
Cover Slip
To move from cover to cover, press diagonally forward on the movement stick and then press the movement button. This will allow you to leave the cover you are behind and immediately begin a roadie run. This is extremely useful for moving around the field safely.
Swat Turn
Holding the movement stick to either the left or right and pressing the movement button will allows you to perform a swat turn. This allows you to move from you current cover to parallel cover in a very safe motion. Note that if you attempt to swat turn without parallel cover you will evade out of cover. Side note: when performing a swat turn, the character's gun changes hands fairly quickly (this has no gaming dis/advantage whatsoever).
Roadie Run
The roadie run is performed by holding forward (or any other direction you want) on the movement stick and pressing and holding the movement button. The roadie run causes the character to crouch and run, and makes the camera to move down behind the character and shake. Once the roadie run has been initiated you can steer left or right with the movement stick (you no longer need to hold it forward) and pan up and down with the aim stick. Turning is considerably slower while roadie running.
The roadie run is great for moving to cover, because the character immediately takes cover if they run into it. Additionally, it presents a small target if a low wall is present, as the character is mostly hidden while in this crouching run.
Turning Wheels
A few spots in the game you'll have to turn a large mounted wheel to either open doorways or move your ferry. Hit [A] over and over to get the action to perform faster, because in most cases time is of the essence.
